Historically, the Mary A Mitigation Bank site was a vast agricultural tract. Today, the improved pastures are interspersed with remnant wetlands and two large contiguous wetland systems in the northwest corner of the site.
The goal is to restore the historical hydrology of the property, anticipated to have a direct and beneficial impact on the Upper St. Johns River Basin.
Located in south Brevard County, the service area for the Mary A Mitigation Bank encompasses south Brevard County (south of Lake Poinsett), all of Indian River County and parts of Okeechobee County. Specifically, this area encompasses all of drainage basins 20 and 22.
Approximately 90 percent of the bank is wetland restoration; the remaining 10 percent comprises upland restoration.
